A versatile, gifted actor, Katey Sagal
is a skilled singer and actress who excelled at comedy and drama. She was most
well-known for her role in the role of Peg Bundy, a brilliantly bold,
unmistakable character from Fox's Married... with Children (1987). In the
course of the series she was nominated two times for the American Comedy Award
and three Golden Globes. Peg Bundy was as popular and well-known as Katey, and
she continued to star in television sitcoms. Katey also played roles which were
totally different from the role that first caught her national attention. In
2008, she took on the character of Gemma Teller Morrow on Sons of Anarchy
(2008). This role was the matriarch of a Hell's Angels-like California biker
band. In 2011, her portrayal of this role was recognized with an award for her
performance in the Golden Globe Award as Best Performance by an Actor in a TV
Series-Drama. Catherine Louise Sagal is the daughter of Sara Zwilling (director
and singer) and Boris Sagal (film and television director). The Los Angeles
native began performing at the age of 5 and then trained in acting and voice at
the California Institute of the Arts in Valencia, California. She began her
singing career as a waitress in her "salad times" as well as
continuing to perform in the band "The Group With No Name." Then, she
was lucky enough to to connect with Gene Simmons (and his 1970s rock group
KISS) and was able to secure an offer to work. She also gained valuable
experiences as a backup singer for Simmons as well as other famous artists such
as Bob Dylan and Etta James. She also was a dynamic performer live alongside
the diva Bette Midler in one of her "Harlettes" in her wildly
avant-garde stage shows during the latter part of the 1970s and into the early
1980s.
